Jonava theatre was founded in 1985, after the director Jonas Andriulevicius had started working there. Since 1994 the theatre acquired the status of the municipality theatre. Since 1995 two stage directors of distinctive style and fingerprint - Zivile Martinaitiene and Jonas Andriulevicius - have been working in the theatre. The theatre director Regina Kesteniene and sound director Virgilijus Sakenas have been working here too. Three groups (the main group and the groups of seniors and youth) play here currently, and they engage about 40 actors.
Throughout its 30 years of creative work Jonava municipality theatre has developed into a troupe famous worldwide. It has also become the organizer of international amateur theatres festivals „Aidas” and children as well as youth theatres festival „DEK“. Jonava municipality theatre is an active member of the national LMTS centre of the International Amateur Theatre Association. Throughout the 30 years over 130 actors have performed here, more than 50 premiers have been staged, the troupe has performed on Lithuanian grand stages and in remote corners of the country. The theatre has enjoyed clapping audience of the countries such as, Poland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Denmark, Ireland, the USA, Iceland, India, England, Austria and others.
Jonava municipality theatre has been famous since 1993 for international amateur theatre forum “Aidas” held every second year. The best Lithuanian amateur theatres, theatre critics, playwrights and theatrologists, the most prominent foreign amateur troupes are invited to the forum. In 2015 the XIIth “Aidas” festival was organized, and the XIIIth anniversary festival is being planned in 2017.
